"ANSONVILLE – Mr. Herbert Wilson “Herby” Benton, Jr., 67, passed away on Monday, August 30, 2021 at Atrium Health Stanly in Albemarle.

Herby was born July 30, 1954, in Anson County, NC and was a son of the late Herbert Wilson Benton and the late Dean Jenrette Benton.

He was a 1972 graduate of Bowman High School and worked with Nat Black Logging for 40 years.

Surviving are his wife, Kathryn; his sons, Larry D. “Spud” Benton and wife, Jessica of Wadesboro and Christopher B. “Bubba” Benton of Lilesville; his grandchildren, Cameron, Bryson, Jarica, Nolan and Brayden; his sister, Carol Black of Ansonville; his brother, Walter Benton and wife, Shannon of Lilesville; his nieces and nephew, Stephanie Maner and husband, Paul and Natalie Threadgill and husband, Bryan all of Ansonville, Madison Honeycutt and husband, Cruz of Wadesboro and Elijah “Eli” Benton of Lilesville; his great nephews and great-niece, Grant Maner, Garrett Maner, Blair Threadgill and Blake Threadgill all of Ansonville and his aunt, Vicky Vaughan of Dunwoody, GA.

Herby especially loved his “animal children and grandchildren”, Happy, Josie, Rocky, Trouble, Sunshine, Zeus, Reecie, TT and Chloe.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Nat Black.

Herby was a good man! He dearly loved and was devoted to his family and friends. He was all about family and enjoyed having cookouts and get togethers for all his family and friends.

He was simply one of the best men anyone could ever know. He was always helpful and caring and would do anything for anyone who was in need. Some of his favorite past times were fishing, pitching horseshoes, going on antique hunts and collecting old bottles.

Due to the current rise in active COVID 19 cases, the family will have a celebration of Herby’s life at a later date.
