The following is a condensation of a letter written in 1952 by A. P. Musselman, Pastor of Lick Creek Church of the Brethren, Bryan, OH. It was based on a short history which had been prepared in 1950.
"In the spring of 1833, a widowed mother and her children, together with the husbands of three married daughters came from the Miama Valley in Montgomery County, OH where many of the Brethren from VA and PA had settled, to a place we now know as Williams Center. The exact course of travel may have followed buffalo and Indian trails along ridges, around marshes, across fords in rivers, and after trying experiences, arrived at the cabin of Frederick Miser, who was to ba a neighbor. They lived in their wagons, with lean-to's built to these wagons with tree boughs and skins until their new cabins in the wilderness were completed.".

Name reference - Gravestone has Col. Philip Hedrick (of George) He was one of the elders who assisted in organizing the NC Classis. The house built and occupied by Col. Hedrick still stands (1931) on the farm on the west side of "Four Mile Branch", about one and a half miles south of Hedrick's Grove Reformed Church. It is now (1931) occupied by Mrs. Martha Beck. It was a fine house 100 years ago. It is two stories high, with a large brick chimmey at either end, with broad open fire places. Near by at the foot of the hill is a spring, surrounded by three oak trees, one pin oak, and two chestnut oaks. Around the house are two cedar trees, one walnut, two maples and six apple trees. The six apple trees are what are left of more than 200 apple trees left by Col. Hedrick 50 years ago. About one mile away Col. Hedrick had another large orchard. All the apple trees were of the "Brandy" variety.

      Will of Henry Barrier Sr

I, Henry Berrier, Sen of Davidson County in the State of North Carolina
being somewhat advanced in years but of sound mind and disposing
memory,do make this my last Will and Testament.

Item First, my will and devise is that all my just debts and funeral
expenses be paid off by my executors as soon after my death as
convenient.

Item Second: I devise and bequeath unto my son, Henry Berrier all of my
Sowers tract of land containing one hundred and fifty acres more or
less, and four acres of meadow ground adjoining the widow Shoaf and the
heirs of G.M. Tussey and also forty five acres on the east side of the
Darr place, by and line North and South, and to have to hold and enjoy
said Real Estate to him the said Henry Berrier to him his heirs and
assigns forever.

Item Third: I devise and bequeath unto my son William Berrier all my
home place containing one hundred and fifteen acres, more or less and
seventy acres of the Darr place being the west end or side to have and
to hold and enjoy said lands free of all molestation to him his heirs
and assigns forever. I further bequeath unto my son William, two
plows,one shovel and one large plow and gears, and ten hogs-choice if on
hand and ten head of choice sheep-if on hand- if not he is not to have
them. And the third of the grain on hand and the half of the growing
crop.

Item: Fourth: I devise and bequeath unto my daughter Phebe Hedrick one
negro girl named Lou or Sue valued at Four hundred dollars and one
hundred dollars already received - making in all five hundred dollars.

Item: Fifth: I devise and bequeath unto my daughter Mary Ann Walk one
negro boy named John valued at three hundred and fifty dollars with one
hundred already received, making in all four hundred and fifty dollars.

Item Sixth: I give and bequeath to my granddaughter, Triphena Wagoner
Three hundred and twenty five dollars and my grandson Joseph Wagoner
three hundred and twenty five dollars making them equal, their mother
Susan Wagoner having received one hundred and fifty dollars making Eight
Hundred Dollars in all. And if either of them die without heirs of the
body the other is to have all. And if both die without heirs of their
own, then all that they receive from my estate is to go back to my
heirs.

Item Seventh: I devise and bequeath unto my two daughters Phebe Hedrick
and Mary Ann Walk all my beds and furniture equally divided between them
both.

Item Eighth: I devise and bequeath unto my four children, Henry
Berrier, William Berrier, Phebe Hedrick, Mary Ann Walk, all my negroes
that is not willed already - to be divided between them to be valued by
three disinterested men and they are to pay my two grand children,
Triphena Wagoner and Joseph Wagoner, their part in money, making five
equal shares in all. And my two daughters Phoebe Hedrick and Mary Ann
Walk are each of them to receive with what they have already received
enough to make up Eight Hundred Dollars each, and after that, all my
children are to receive an equal share including my son, Solomon
Berrier, making sic shares instead of five shares, share and share
alike,including negroes and my other property not willed, but Solomon
Berrier is to receive his share in money including the valuation of the
negroes and the negroes are to be divided between the four children
heretofore named - but their valuation to be divided among six -Solomon
Berrier, Henry Berrier, William Berrier, Phebe Hedrick, Mary Ann Walk and
Triphena and Joseph Wagoner, one share.

I nominate and appoint my son Henry Berrier and my son-n-law Joseph
Walk, the sole executors of this my last Will and Testament. In witness
whereof, I have here unto set my hand and affixed my seal, this twelfth
day of March in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and sixty.
