4. John² Sowers or Sauer, Sr. (Johann¹ Sauer). John was born on 20 Mar 1760. He married Christine ? He married Agnes Owens circa 1782. John died on 22 Aug 1834 in Wetaug, Pulaski County, IL, at age 74. Sowersville Settlement. His body was interred in Aug 1834.
He was in the Revolutionary War, enlisted in Jul., 1776.

When he was 16 years old he enlisted as a Private in the NC Troops to fight in the American Revolution. He was with the NC Troops, commanded by General Nathaniel Greene, when they crossed the Yadkin River, with the British General, Lord Cornwallis, in pursuit. A terrible storm prevented Lord Cornwallis from crossing at this point, and the delay helped General Greene's troops to regroup and move to Guilford Courthouse, the battle that was the turning point for the American troops. The battlefield in Rowan County (now Davidson County) where John Sowers fought is called York Hill.

1829.
In 1829 he and his family went to southern IL, where his son Henry Sowers had gone in 1816 to found Sowersville Settlement in Pulaski County.

1963.
In 1963 the Eqyptian Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution dedicated a plaque in the Wetaug Cemetery in memory of John Sowers, Revolutionary soldier, born in NC.

•     69.  v.   Christine Sowers Christine was born 19 Aug., 1811 in Rowan County, NC. She married William A. Newnum 28 Dec., 1837 in Fountain County, IN.


•       vi.   Peter Sulovan? Sullivan Sowers. Peter was born 22 Mar., 1812 in Rowan County, NC. He was baptized 26 Aug., 1813. Religion. Peter died. His body was interred.


•       vii.   Jefferson Sowers. Jefferson was born in 1816 in Rowan County, NC. Jefferson died 12 Sep., 1871 in Davidson County, NC.


•     70.  viii.   Alfred Sowers Alfred was born 10 Apr., 1819 in NC. He married Margarette Moriah Vickers 25 Sep., 1839 in Fountain County, IN.


•       ix.   Emaline Sowers. Emaline was born 31 Jul., 1821 in Rowan County, NC. Emaline died.


•       x.   Alexander Sowers. Alexander was born in 1828 in Davidson County, NC. He married Catherine Vickers say 1848. Alexander died 3 Jun., 1849 in Davidson County, NC. His body was interred.
  Catherine Vickers. Catherine died. Her body was interred.

13. Anna Maria² Sowers 'Mary Lily Ann' (Johann¹ Sauer). Anna was born on 20 May 1781. She married Joseph Evans. Anna died on 30 Nov 1849 at age 68. Her body was interred in 1849 in Putnam County, IN.
Joseph Evans. Joseph was born on 21 Apr 1771. Joseph died on 20 Feb 1866 at age 94. 10 Feb., 1866? His body was interred in Feb 1866 in Putnam County, IN. Moved from NC to IN.


He and his wife moved from Davidson County, NC to Putnam County, IN and became large landowners.
