Clarissa's father died in a POW Civil War camp and her mother died not longer after Clarissa was born so she was raised by her cousin Molly Regan. She appeared on the census of 1880 at Howellsville, Robeson County, NC (1880 Census, wife, Clarissa Smith).

Seth and Clarissa lived across the road from the old Smith Mill Pond in the Smith's Community of Robeson County, NC. On the porch of the home were five doors into the house. With the number of children born to them, one can image as the children were born additional rooms were added. Their fourteenth child was born after Seth died at 45 years old. After Seth died, Clarissa sold their property in Robeson County, NC moved to Whiteville, NC in Jan., 1908, where their son, Seth Lewis Smith, lived and had been set up in business by his father. She was a member of the Whiteville Methodist Church at which she had been a member since moving to Whiteville.


He was executor of his father's estate, inherited land from his father, and added additional farmland.

In Seth's obituary it is noted that he was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. He was described as a "jovial, kindhearted and ditiful man. He was a man of trust and confidence and the many friends he had is evidence to prove him to be a man of sterling worth. He certainly was a friend to the poor, and will be missed by them more than any other man in the entire community. He was a shrewd businessman, and had made a great amount of money the last few years, and we suppose he was worth about $25,000. We understand his life was insured for a good sum." The article noted that the funeral was at Regan United Methodist Church. He appeared on the census of 1880 at Howellsville, Robeson County, NC (1880 Census, Head of Household, Seth Smith).

  No children). Seth died on 14 Oct 1954 at Whiteville, Columbus County, NC, at age 75. His body was interred.
  When his father died, Seth Lewis was an adult and had set up a mule trading business in Whiteville, NC by his father. He was an astute businessman and accumlated many acres of farmland around Whiteville, NC as well as bisinesses and property in Whiteville, NC. To help him in his business, he recruited two of his nephews, J. C. Smith, son of Claude and Lewis Smith, son of Edward Smith. Upon Seth's death, his wife, the new nephews as well as his siblings received valuable property. He appeared on the census of 1880 at Howellsville, Robeson County, NC (1880 census, living with parents, Seth L. Smith).
  Blanch B. Lucas was born on 7 Jan 1886. She died on 29 Mar 1969 at age 83.

  Ruth never married. She lived at times with Claude and Walter. Later she bought a farm in Tolarsville, Robeson County, NC near her brothers, Claude and Walter. Her single brother, Mull, lived with her and worked her farm. After she sold her farm to Graham Smith, son of Walter Smith, she returned to Wilmington, NC to retire. She had been a bookkeeper in Wilmington, NC at one time and retired to live in the Catherine Kennedy Home there.
  
  Ruth was an outspoken person with strong opinions. She was an outstanding seamstress and made many clothes for herself and members of the family.

  Malcolm liked calm juice for breakfast. He had two copies of the newspaper delivered each day to their home, one for him and one for his mother-in-law, Mrs. Tipton who lived with them.

  Stephen served in the Merchant Marines. About 1926 after telling his sister, Bess, that he was going to see the world andsent his trunk to his brother Walter. He was in contact with his sister Bess, occasionally. For long periods of time no one knew where his wherabouts. Eventually, he disappeared and has never been seen or heard from.
