Name & Notes Sources: Louise Carmichael, Indiv.# 108936. When Frank was about age 2 or 3, a fire was in the fireplace in their home in Fair Bluff, NC. His mother, Irene, was using a tobacco stick to poke the fire. The end of the stick was burning and Frank thought that it was pretty. He took the burning tobacco stick into the room where his sister's Lois's bed was located. The stick fell on the bed and set the bed on fire. Frank is listed as Surgical Technician, 861, WWII, South Philippines. He earned the Bronze Star. Military service from 21 Sep., 1944 induction to 19 Apr., 1946 separation. His common name was 'Frank.'

       Steve Keith Herod, 52 of Groves passed away on March 14, 2009 from pancreatic cancer. He owned Herod Air Conditioning in Groves. He was preceded in death by his father Joe E. Herod. Steve is survived by his daughter, Stephanie and husband, Joey Rensland; his mother, Sandra Herod; sisters, Kim Parker and husband Mark, and Kay Gilmore and husband Gary; and his girlfriend, Lien Nguyen of Groves. Funeral services will be held at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at Parker Cemetery in Grapeland. Steve was an accomplished guitar player. He loved music, especially the Beatles. He had a generous spirit and a great sense of humor. May Steve's spirit forever fly free.
