Delwin Randolph Croom , Sr. Delwin was born on 13 Jan 1922 at Bladen County, NC. Delwin died on 23 Dec 2008 at age 86. Attended school in Bolton, NC, Hallsboro High School. Attended Mars Hill College. Graduate of NC State College, degree in Aerospace Engineering. Pilot, US Air Force, European area, WWII. Occupation: Engineer at NASA LaRC, Hampton, VA 23681 Delwin Rudolph Croom Sr., 86, passed away on Dec. 23, 2008. He was born Jan. 13, 1922, in Bladen County, N.C., to Minnie Lee Carr Croom and Oscar Arthur Croom; and he grew up in Bolton, N.C. His parents and two brothers, Clifton and Wendell, and his wife of 65 years, Ann, precede him in death. During WWII Delwin was a C-47 Troop Transport pilot in the 8th Air Force serving in the European Theater. Following the War, he graduated from North Carolina State University and moved to Hampton to join the NACA/NASA research team where he worked on a variety of airplanes, spacecraft, and other flying concepts. He retired after 36 years of service. He was later inducted into the Space Technology Hall of Fame for his part in the research and development of parawings and hang gliders. For more than 50 years he was an active member of Hampton Baptist Church serving three terms as a Deacon. He was a dedicated member of the Northampton Lions Club, known for working to end preventable blindness. He had a remarkable 47-year perfect attendance record and held many offices, including President. He was honored for his devotion to the Club with the prestigious Fellowship Award. Delwin formed lifelong friendships through his associations with the church, the Lions Club, the Langley Golf Association, and several bridge groups. His family will remember him as kind, compassionate, and generous, and he will remain in our hearts forever. Mary Ella moved to Fayetteville, NC in 1941 following separation from Bert. She was an excellent seamstress and worked initially for Verne the Tailor at Fort Bragg. She then started a career in Civil Service Packing Parachutes for the 82nd Airborne Division at Pope Field (Now Pope Air Force Base). Supervised dozens of women in the Parachute Packing facility.
Murphy Townsend. Murphy died.

43 i. Katie Lee⁵ Ivey. Katie was born on 21 May 1921. She married Cotesworth Henderson McCoy. She married Thomas McGrath Mullen. She died on 6 Aug 2005 at age 84. She was buried (She was cremated with ashes spread at various locations in the surrounding Charlotte, NC area. Steele Creek Presbyterian Church cemetery in the McCoy plot next to her husband's grave).

Bert was a Farmer and a carpenter. Served with the US Army during WW I. Worked as a carpenter at Fort Bragg when the fort was preparing for massive troop build-up at the beginning of WW II. Played many musical instruments well, by ear, - piano, guitar. page 1. His common name was Bert.
