22. Simon Willis4 Parker 'Willis' (Ralph3, Francis2, John1). Simon was born in 1835 at Robeson County, NC. He married Catherine Nixion on 7 Apr 1857. Simon died before 1894 at Houston County, TX. His body was interred at Parker Cemetery at Houston County, TX.
He lived near Palestine, TX in 1857.

He was listed in the 1860 census for Elkhart, Houston County, TX.

The Historical Marker at the Parker Cemetery reads:
Willis Parker arrived in this area from North Carolina in the 1850s. Many of his relatives later joined him in Texas. Upon Willis Parker's death about 1857, his parents Ralph R. and Sarah C. Hodge Parker set aside land on their farm for a family cemetery. Although Willis Parker's grave is believed to be the oldest here, his grave bears the earliest tombstone (1861). Of the more than four hundred marked and unmarked graves, most are interments of the Parker and related families, including Civil War, World War I and World War
II veterans.

There is a marker at the front of the cemetery which reads:

23. Rev. Francis Haywood4 Parker 'Frank' (Ralph3, Francis2, John1). Francis was born in 1837 at Robeson County, NC. Near Lumberton. He married Zilphia Ann Overstreet 'Ziffee' on 25 May 1866. Francis died on 9 Jan 1913 at Grapeland, Houston County, TX. His body was interred at TX. Parker Cemetery.
Methodist. He was called an " Exorter" in the Church and he is recorded as a lay preacher present at the first Quarterly Conference at the Elkhart Church.

He came to TX in the late 1850's and encouraged his father and large family to follow him.

The Parker family, with others in the community, built a Methodist church known as "Woodland Hall". This was later moved and name changed to New Prospect. It now is in the Parker Cemetery for which Ralph and Sara C. Parker gave five acres in 1861.

In the 1860 Census he is listed with his parents Ralph Parker and Sara.

He was in the Civil War, CSA, Pension #15588. He was in the CSA from 1861 to 1865 with the 5th TX Cavalry Regiment, Sibley's Brigade.

He came to TX from NC with his family in or about 1858.

He later purchased farm land and homesteaded some land in the community now known as New Prospect, TX.

He served in the Civil War, CSA, Army. He was about 17 when he joined the Army. As was the case in many instances, he furnished his own weapons. His principle weapon was a double barrel muzzle-loading shot gun which he gave to his grandson, James Mulkey Owens, Jr. about 1913. He was slightly wounded by a rifle ball which clipped the lobe off one of his ears.

He was a farmer in the New Prospect community until later life when he was in the general merchantile business.

He was one of the early merchants in Grapeland, TX. He operated a general merchandise store for a number of years with James Mulkey Owens, his son-in-law and partner at the time of his death. The name of the firm was Owens and Parker.

THE PARKER FAMILY
IN 1860, MR. AND MRS. RALPH PARKER WITH THEIR FAMILY REACHED TEXAS AND SETTLED IN THE NORTHERN PART OF HOUSTON COUNTY, VERY NEAR PARKER CEMETERY NORTHWEST OF GRAPELAND. THEY BUILT A HOME OF LOGS AND ONLY A FEW YEARS LATER BUILT A CHURCH, CALLED WOODLAND HALL. THEY WERE DEVOUT METHODISTS, BUT ALL DENOMINATIONS WERE WELCOME TO PREACH IN THIS CHURCH WHICH THE NEIGHBORS AROUND HAD HELPED WITH. MR. PARKER DIED IN 1861 AND HIS TWO OLDEST SONS, FRANK H. AND JOHN NELSON JOINED THE CONFEDERATE ARMY ONLY A FEW MONTHS AFTER HIS DEATH, LEAVING THE WIDOW AND YOUNGER CHILDREN TO FEND FOR THEMSELVES.
FRANK H. PARKER IS RECORDED AS A LAY PREACHER PRESENT AT THE FIRST QUARTERLY CONFERENCE ELKART CHURCH ATTENDED. THIS CONFERENCE WAS HELD AT GUICELAND CHURCH, A SHORT DISTANCE SOUTHEAST OF GUICELAND CEMETERY JUST OFF HIGHWAY 287 AT COUNTY LINE ROAD. HE AND HIS WIFE, ANN OVERSTREET PARKER REARED A LARGE FAMILY AND LIVED TO SEE THEIR CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN DEVOUT WORKERS IN THE CHURCH. ONE OF HIS GRANDSONS, CALVIN BROWN IS A MEMBER OF THIS CHURCH. A GRANDDAUGHTER, MRS DONALD SPENCER(JEANNETTE BROWN) IS ALSO IN THIS CHURCH AND HER THREE CHILDREN HAVE BEEN CHRISTENED AT THE SAME ALTAR WHERE SHE AND DONALD WERE MARRIED. MRS. CALVIN BROWN, MRS. PRESTON WOHLFORD AND HER SON, KEITH, ARE DESCENDANTS OF CATHERINE PARKER FINCH-METCALF.
JOHN NELSON PARKER'S SON JAMES N. PARKER AND THREE OF HIS CHILDREN WERE AT ONE TIME MEMBERS OF THIS CHURCH. MR. PARKER DIED SEVERAL YEARS AGO, AND EVEN BEFORE HIS DEATH HIS CHILDREN WERE AWAY FROM THE PARENTAL HOME. HIS WIDOW MRS. CHLOE GRAY PARKER MOVED AWAY AFTER HIS DEATH.

Parker joined Crockett Camp No 141 and his name as a Confederate soldier appears on the Camp register as a member of Co. I 1st Battalion of F. N. Walls 2nd Texas Leagion. In 1911 he was elected "Flag Bearer" or "Color Bearer" of Crockett Camp no. 141 - which positions he held for three years at his request. I made application to the D. of Conf. for a Cross of Honor. Which I received in due time and delivered to him and which his wife has now. From these facts I can.
