HENRY E. SHOAF IS DEAD FROM INJURY
Fell While Gathering Blackberries; Native of Rowan.

Henry Ellis Shoaf died Saturday morning at 11:30 o'clock at the Mooresville hospital where he had been under treatment since Monday morning, July 8, when he fell while gathering berries in the rear end of his residence lot on Academy street, sustaining a broken hip. About two years ago Mr. Shoaf was stricken with paralysis, his left side being affected. He grew some what better and had been able to walk about the home.
The deceased was born in Mill Bridge, Rowan county, July 24, 1849 and would have been 80 years old had he lived to the 24th of this month. He was a member of Back Creek Presbyterian church and had been an officer in the church for half a century. Mr. Shoaf moved from his Rowan farm to Mooresville about 16 years ago and was recognized as one of the leading citizens of the town and community.
He is survived by his wife, who before marriage was Miss Sarah Miller, also of Mill Bridg. Children surviving are Alston Shoaf, of Miami, Fla.; Mrs. A. C. Kimrey of Raleigh; Jay Shoaf of Richmond, Va.; Miss Mary Shoaf of Mooresville; and Mrs. A. D. Pethel, of Salisbury. There are also living seven grandchildren. The following nephews who were reared in the Shoaf home are F. H. Shoaf of Charlotte; J. T. Shoaf, of Washington, D. C.; and O. C. Shoaf, of Mill Bridge. One sister Mrs. S. B. Hart, of Mooresville, also survives.
Funeral services will be held at Back Creek Presbyterian Church this afternoon at 5 o'clock conducted by the pastor, the Rev. J. E. Guthrie, assisted by Dr. R. A. White, pastor of the First Presbyterian church of Mooresville, and Dr. E. D. Brown of Statesville, former pastor of Thyatira church.
Honorary pall bearers will be the officers of Back Creek church. Active pall bearers will be John T. McNeely, Dr. Parks Trivette, M. T. McKnight of Mooresville, S. Sloop, A. K. Goodman and Dr. George A. Brown of Mount Ulla. He resided in 1900 at Mt. Ulla, Rowan County, NC. 1900 Census.

  JOE SHOAF, 100, DIES; FUNERAL MONDAY AT 2
  
  A former Mooresville resident - Joseph Turner Shoaf, 100, a resident at Hawthorne Nursing Center in Charlotte--died at the home Saturday.
  A native of Rowan County, Mr. Shoaf was born on December 14, 1883.
  Mr. Shoaf, who attended Mooresville High School, was in business in Richmond, Va., before locating in Washington, D. C. , where for 40 years he was a wholesale lumber merchant.
  He retired in 1952 and returned to Mooresville to make his home.
  Mr. Shoaf was a life member of the Almas Shrine Temple in Washington, D. C., having joined the Shrine in 1926.
  Surviving are one cousin, Miss Mary Shoaf, formerly of Mooresville, now a resident of the Presbyterian Home in High Point; and one nephew Edwin Shoaf of Huntersville.
  Funeral services for Mr. Shoaf were conducted at 4 p. m. Monday in the E. C. Cavin Memorial Chapel of the Cavin Funeral Home in Mooresville, with the Rev. S. Edwin Lewis, the Rev. Vance Polley and the Rev. John William officiating. Burial was in the Back Creek Presbyterian Church cemetery at Mount Ulla.
