CARMICHAEL, Calif. - Texie Sowers Shelton, 86, of Carmichael, Calif., passed away Friday, May 28, 2004. She was born in Churchland, N.C., on Sept. 22, 1917, and dedicated her life to serving her Lord. She completed two master's degrees, taught in North Carolina for 37 years, served on the N.C. State Textbook Commission and was active in Ardmore Baptist Church. Surviving are her daughter, Texie Susan Gregory; her grandchildren, Tyler Gregory and Elizabeth Gregory; her brothers, Dr. Paul Sowers and Lt. Col. Gray Sowers; a niece, Betsy Sowers; and her stepchildren, Joy Warren, Dr. D.K. Shelton and Jan Rodine.

LEXINGTON - Mrs. Gracie Sowers Sink, 79, of Partridge Lane died Tuesday, Jan. 22, at 1:30 p.m. in Arbor Acres Triad United Methodist Home in Winston-Salem after nine years of declining health.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Forest Hill Memorial Park with the Rev. John Ferree and the Rev. Jill Alventosa-Brown.
Mrs. Sink was born Jan.11, 1923, in Davidson County to James Columbus Sowers and Helen Craver Sowers.
After graduating from Peace College in 1941, she received an AB degree from Meredith College in 1943, taught school in Lexington City Schools and also taught kindergarten at First United Methodist Church. A member of First United Methodist Church, she was a member of the Spruill Coed Class, The Charity League, the Richard Walser Book Club and Lexington Garden Club.
Her sister Louise Sowers preceded her in death. Surviving are her husband, Archie McCoy Sink of the home; a son, Dr. James David Sink of Chapel Hill; a daughter, Helen (Teenie) Sink Bingham of Lexington; six grandchildren, Jaye Elizabeth Bingham of Raleigh, James Hugh Bingham Jr. of Charlotte, James David Sink Jr. of Los Angeles, Emily Grace Sink of Chapel Hill, William Townsend McCoy Sink of Winston-Salem and Mary Kathryn Sink of Chapel Hill; and two sisters, Fannie Sowers Green of Lexington and Jimmie Blue Sowers Graeber of Gastonia.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at the home. Memorials may be directed to the charity of the donor's choice.
