95. John Wesley⁶ Hedrick 'Wesley' (George⁵, Mary⁴ Conrad, Hans³ Conrath, Johann?², Johann?¹). John was born on 14 Nov 1850 at Davidson County, NC. He married Martha Jane Wright 'Jane' on 28 Dec 1871. John died on 21 Jan 1931 at age 80. His body was interred at Oakwood Memorial Park Cemetery at High Point, Guilford County, NC.
He spoke Deutsche German until he was 10 years of age. He and his family lived at 1401 King Street, High Point, NC. He was a faithful member of the Jerusalem Reformed Church of Lower Davidson Charge, for thirty six years. About one year after becoming a member there, he was elected and ordained a deacon. Having served in that capacity for two years, he was elected and ordained an elder. He served at Jerusalem as elder for a period of thirty-three years. He was a Magistrate. He performed marriage ceremonies and also handled trials. He was also the postmaster in the area where he lived in Davidson County, dispensing the mail from his home. He built a small pine desk which had pigeon holes on top, and then other little drawers and shelves. Over this he fastened a hinged top, which hung at an angle. He painted the desk grey. Just before moving to High Point, NC, his father asked him for the top of the desk so Wesley gave it to him. Understand that Wesley's wife wasn't too happy about this! When Wesley settled in High Point, NC, the little desk was placed in the dining room and Wesley's wife kept her small napkins, dish towels, etc. in it. The desk, still without the original top, now (1968) belongs to Rev. Lloyd Sechrist. Lloyd bought it at the sale after Wesley's death and paid 50 cents for the desk. When he bought it, it still had a set of red fringed napkins in it. On moving to High Point, NC, Wesley united with the Reformed Church under the pastorate of Rev. D. E. Bowers, and was an elder for twenty years. He served as an officer of the church during the pastorates of Rev. L. A. Peeler, Rev. Roy E. Leinbach, Rev. E. A. Krebs, Rev. Milton Whitener and Rev. W. R. Shaffer. In 1930 he was elected an Elder for life, an honor coming to only a few members. The governing body of the local congregation in the Reformed Church is made up of Elders and Deacons. The elders constitute the higher body. He was also a member of Washington Camp, Patriotic Order, Sons of America. His common name was 'Wesley.'

She was well known in the entire community for her "green thumb" - she grew these beautiful LARGE chrysanthemums - in all colors and varieties - whites, yellows, bronzes, pinks, lavenders, etc. In the fall of each year she would enter them in the Flower Show and always won many ribbons for her prize flowers.
